Your watch is delivered with the instructions booklet containing advice of its functioning and care. Please follow the advice carefully, because the guarantee does not apply to damage done by inappropriate use or treatment of your watch; nor does it cover faults due to the intervention of any person other than an official Brunoff Service Center or your Brunoff authorized dealer. The guarantee does not extend to the bracelets, the glass and the battery nor does it cover any damage done to the case and the movement by humidity entering the watch because of a handling error. We recommend that you either send your watch by insured mail, wrapped carefully to prevent damage, to the official Brunoff distributor or that you take it to your nearest authorized Brunoff dealer.
Your Brunoff requires a certain amount of care. The following guidelines will enable you to ensure its reliability and protect its appearance over time.
- The durability of the battery depends on the factors such as the construction of the mechanism. If a battery-driven watch stops or if it is indicated that the battery voltage is waning, it should be brought to the specialist shop immediately, so that the empty battery cannot cause any damage either to watch or the environment.
- The battery should be changed regularly at 1 – 1½ year intervals in the specialist shop, which also inspects the current consumption and the condition of the seals where necessary and replaces them if required.
- If condensed water forms (fog under the glass), the watch must be brought to the specialist shop immediately, so that the moisture does not cause any damage.
- The winder should always be pressed in or screwed tight when worn.
- The leather strap of your watch is a part subject to wear and as a natural product it is particularly put at risk above all the moisture, sweat, chemicals and abrasion; therefore, it only has a limited life span and should be replaced every 6-12 months (also for hygiene reasons) depending on how often it is worn. If it is changed, the location pins (spring pins) should also be inspected and replaced if necessary.
Waterproofness is not a permanent property; it should be checked annually, in particular, before subjecting the watch to special stresses, as the installed sealing elements deteriorate in their function and in daily use.
- Watch housings are composed of several materials which fit perfectly and may differing expansion coefficients in the case of fluctuating temperatures.
- In order to nevertheless guarantee waterproofness for specific requirements, there are special constructions with incorporated seals. These are subject to a natural aging process. Among other things, they are attacked by sweat and acids.
- DIN 8310 regulates the criteria for construction and test pressures which new watches have to withstand. The resistibility is stated in bar and noted on the housing base.
- Watch housings which are resistant to sweat, drops of water, rain, etc. are termed water resistant. They have to withstand being immersed in water for over 30 minutes with a water depth of 1 m without water penetrating. These watches are meant for normal, daily use and may not be used under conditions where water pressure and temperatures vary considerably.
- If an additional pressure is stated, such as, for example, "3 bar", the testing conditions are more severe. The "3 bar" pressure information should not be confused with the diving depth, but is the definition of test pressure. A test pressure of "3 bar" is reached in 30 m water depth.
- When swimming and jumping into water a greater pressure may suddenly be exerted on the sealing elements than the guaranteed test pressure. Watches are particularly at risk when the wearer jumps into water after a prolonged period of sunbathing, as then the impact pressure combines with the low pressure due to the cooling process, which can more easily lead to damage.
- When changing the battery, it is important to check the performance characteristics of watches manufactured according to DIN and to check the seals accordingly and replace them if necessary.
- In order to prevent water coming into contact with the internal mechanism, never pull the crown out when the watch is wet.
- If any watches designed for sportswear or use in water come into contact with salt water or heavy sweating, they should be rinsed in fresh water and dried thoroughly.
